Welcome to Penguins Class (Year 1)
Year One is an exciting year of learning! Throughout our time together we develop children’s independence, social skills and foster love of learning. In english we focus on independent sentence writing and progress to forming short narratives. We explore a broad variety of stories to develop our writing. A range of artists inspire our own artwork and we have great fun investigating animals, living things and different materials in science.
History lessons teach us about significate people and events such as Rosa Parks and the Great Fire of London. We also consider how these influence our lives today.
We continue to use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised to teach phonics and early reading. Supporting children to develop fluency, comprehension and prosody.
We are excited to share that we will soon be extending our learning into the great outdoors with our Year 1 children taking the lead in the development of a second forest school site.
More information about our Year One curriculum for individual subjects can be found on our curriculum pages and in our termly newsletters.
We look forward to welcoming you into Penguins Class!
Timetable
Our timetable can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curriculum that is covered.
