All Aboard The Rainbow Retreat: Halling Primary’s New Chapter in Learning

Halling Primary School has proudly unveiled The Rainbow Retreat – its very own double-decker bus, beautifully transformed into an inspiring intervention and learning space.

What was once an old vehicle on the road is now a vibrant hub of opportunity for Halling’s pupils. It has been completely refurbished with new flooring, redesigned seating, and upgraded electrics.

Now sitting proudly on the school playground, The Rainbow Retreat is a unique space: a space to read, to learn, to enjoy some quiet time, to grow in confidence and to dream big.

It represents more than just a clever use of space – it shows what can happen when a community comes together with determination, creativity and care.

The bus’s name reflects Halling’s ethos, with RAINBOW representing: Respect, Acceptance, Inclusion, Nurture, Belonging, Opportunity and Wellbeing – principles at the heart of our school community.

Mrs Chrissy Lalami (Teaching Assistant) led on Halling’s bus project. “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported in getting The Rainbow Retreat Bus up and running. Your help, encouragement and belief made this dream a reality. I could not have done it without your help, no matter how big or small.”

The official bus reveal took place on Friday 13th September 2025, when Headteacher Ms Lisa Taylor shared the story behind the project and what it represents for Halling. The whole school gathered on the playground along with some members of the community and Governors.

“My sincere thanks must go to all those who made this possible. Our bus – The Rainbow Retreat – is proof that when we work together, wonderful things can happen.” said Ms Taylor. “It will provide our children with a space that is calm, creative and supportive, and it will make a real difference to their learning journeys.”

To mark the occasion, the school’s Head Pupils officially opened The Rainbow Retreat by cutting the ribbon. “I’m going to count down from 3. Then shout out, as loudly as you can, ‘Open our bus!’’” This was followed by a huge cheer.

The sun shone down on The Rainbow Retreat for this special event which was met with excitement and pride from children, staff, parents, Governors, and members of Halling’s wider community.
